WELCOME HOME
Lately, everywhere from fashion magazines to the runway to celebrity paparazzi shots, I’m seeing CAPES. Maybe capes aren’t your thing, or you don’t know how you’d incorporate a cape into your own handmade wardrobe, but I’m here to tell you: looking at all the images & comparing them to vintage patterns in my collection, I realized a cape is a blank canvas that gives us the opportunity to refine some high-end, luxury sewing techniques with very little risk.
Our new sewalong video series is designed intentionally with you in mind. I’ve selected four capes sewing patterns, and each one showcases a different skill. Follow along as I sew each cape step-by-step, and teach the techniques below!
Five weeks, and five HOW TO video guides:
- HOW TO sew with wool fabrics, including tools and best practices
- HOW TO match plaid fabrics when cutting and sewing
- HOW TO sew bound seams
- HOW TO sew bound buttonholes
- HOW TO sew lace
Get started this week with an overview of the FOUR capes patterns I'm sewing as a palette where I'll showcase each of these techniques!
Whether you sew your own cape, or use this series as a launching point for other autumn sewing projects, we can't wait to see what you make.
