Each year, The League hosts a Sewing Tournament. As far as we know, it's the first and only of its kind. Read on for all the details, and find out how to be part of the sewing fun!
Our mission at The League is to cultivate a creative community who sew their own wardrobes. We do that through video guides, exclusive garment sewing patterns, and live events--and also with playful challenges that lead to joy-filled sewing and lasting connections between members.
How the tournament works:
Our Annual Tournament is one of those playful challenges. For the month of March, we have a weekly sewing challenges. No one knows what each week's challenge will be until it's announced to the group, and each challenge is designed so that ANY sewing level can complete it.
Members are placed in brackets, just like a bowling league or a basketball league--except this time, with sewing! Each member submits their projects at the end of the week, and a guest judge evaluates them based on the criteria included in the challenge. Winners in each bracket move on to the next week's challenge, and the Grand Prize winner is announced at the end of the tournament!
There are prizes small and large at each stage of the tournament to keep you motivated and sewing along, but never underestimate the encouragement of being cheered on by a team! Everyone at The League wants to see every member's sewing projects, and ALL of us are thrilled to scroll through the entries each week.
What kind of challenges are included in the sewing tournament?
Every challenge is thoughtfully designed, and uses resources here at The League included in your membership. When the sewing challenge for the week is announced, you'll get videos or pattern pieces to go along with it, so you're always fully supported as you sew!
Last year, the challenges included sewing a garment with applique, sewing a ruffled half apron using a video guide from The League, and sewing a tote bag from your stash. These are challenges that you can meet at YOUR current sewing level, where you can also explore new skills and share what you've made!
Who can enter the sewing tournament?
The League's Annual Tournament is open to all League members, and lights a fire under ALL of us to do our best sewing! We see a jump in members finishing projects they started long ago, starting patterns they've been putting off, and making friends across the miles who cheer them on. We LOVE the Tournament, because it creates a warm place where we get a nudge to move forward, from wherever we're beginning, and to learn something new that's next for us.
